INTRODUCTION LETTER
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome to the P.S. 205 Kindergarten. My name is Ms. Lockwood, and I would like to introduce myself to you as your child's Kindergarten teacher for this year. I am looking forward to working with you and your child.
If there is any pertinent information you would like me to know about your child please let me know. During the year parent volunteering for classroom activities, and trips is needed. Everyday your child will be asked to work in groups and individually.
On every Monday of a new week there will be a homework sheet, which states the homework and upcoming activities for the week. The homework sheet will be placed in the homework folder. Please check the folder each night for any important notices. The homework will be a reinforcement of the activities learned throughout the day. Please work with your child on these activities but do not do it for them. Every night you will be asked to read to your child.
Please add your child's name and class to each of the school supplies. School supplies are used as community property, which means that everyone shares. You may start bringing in supplies this week, but please do not send in all the supplies at the same time. It will be too heavy for the children to carry up the stairs.
Every day your child will receive a time to have snack which is separate from lunch, please send your child with something healthy to eat. Snack should not take more than ten minutes to eat. Please have your child dress according to the weather. After lunch the students will be going outside to play. In order to foster independence, select coats and boots that your child can handle with the least amount of assistance from adults. Please label your child's clothing. Example: hats, mittens, jackets. On the day the students have gym, the students must wear sneakers to participate.
If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday please let me know in advance so that we can schedule a time. We love to celebrate birthdays and are happy to celebrate with a special snack for everyone. In order to celebrate a birthday in class there must be parent participation.
If you need to get in touch with me please send a note in your child's homework folder or send me an email. To alleviate your child's first day fears, talk to him or her about what to anticipate: that school will be a fun busy learning time.
I am looking forward to working with you throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Ms. Lockwood
